About

I am a small-batch ceramic artist creating functional, wheel-thrown pottery here in Madison, Wisconsin. I am drawn to simple patterns, clean lines, and unfussy shapes. All my glazes are lead free, and all finished products are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe. My Intention is to create pots to be used and enjoyed daily - to make pieces that are beautiful and durable but not overly precious or delicate.

Until going full time with ceramics, I was an art therapist; I have worked with many populations including children with developmental disabilities, newly arrived refugees, and children who suffer from serious medical conditions. Because of this work, I strongly believe that art-making is a form of therapeutic communication and a vehicle for social justice, and I often bring elements of this viewpoint into my work.

I have a personal theory that everything you need to know about life you can learn from working with clay. Making pottery teaches you to be present in the moment. It teaches you let go and move on - to accept that things don't always work out the way you want. Sometimes the kiln mis-fires, a piece cracks, or a glaze runs in an unintended way. Working with clay teaches you that it's ok to get dirty, and pushes you to find that happy balance between being strong and being gentle.

Thanks for stopping by!
